The System

Aaron had a phone call the other day from US Cares which is somehow related to Social Services. They were very concerned as they had heard that this fund existed and wanted to make sure none of the money was actually in Aaron's or her chidren's name. So, if you wondered why you made a check out to me or your paypal receipt had my name on it - this is why. Under SSI guidelines, if Aaron were to receive any income, she would have to return an equivalent amount back to SSI. Well, I understand not cheating the system, but this I find to be a little insane. The point of this blog is to try to give a gift to someone who hasn't had anything in the way of luxuries in her life. I'm not trying to cheat the system or scam anyone.

If anyone is wondering about tax implications -all money donated is considered a gift. We are not a charity and money may not be considered a donation on your taxes. Taxes only come into the equation if someone were to donate over $12,000 at which point I would have to pay gift tax. (And if someone were to donate that much, I'd be glad to pay it!) If Aaron is unable to go to Disney World, the money will be used to help the family, but not actually given to them. For instance, the brakes on Glenda's 14 year old car might get fixed.
